words by Elliot Cole
The hottest ticket in town deservedly belonged to the venue with the hottest people in town. While the spectacle of Playboy bunnies, hipsters, socialites and industry reps was more than worthwhile, C3 Presents and Playboy put together one of the “must see” events of SXSW with a poorly-kept secret: a reunited Jane’s Addiction. With all of the small-time, up-and-coming acts playing in poorly-lit clubs stained with stale beer all over Austin, it was more than gratifying to see a group with the performing chops of Perry Farrell and crew. Dave Navarro, shirtless with a hat obscuring his face, leaned back and unleashed his six-string fury, while Farrell played to the crowd with sass and rock adrenaline. An elaborate light set up lit up the abandoned Safeway building as the band blared through five songs, including the riveting closer, "Stop!". With free drinks pouring and A-Trak DJing to the packed house, the event had a surreal, epic quality. While Metallica and Kanye drew wildly respectable buzz, nobody can throw a party like the rabbit gang.
